Everyone's a little bit racist... sometimes...

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 12:20 AM on October 4, 2007.

To those who have watched Avenue Q, I bet you know the line above (If you haven't I recommend watching it, there's a re-run in December, or you could download the soundtrack or watch clips in YouTube). The next line to the song would be Doesn't mean we go Around committing hate crimes.

Well I bet that Desperate Housewives show made Susan's character comment in humor. I'm imagining that the writer of this episode has a globe in his/her house and randomly spin it and STOP his/her finger on what country to say “Can I check those diplomas? Coz I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the -Insert Country Here-

I've read a comment in Philippine Star website of someone saying that Filipinos are just over reacting since its obviously for humor... then several post followed how un-filipino-ish that post was... heated arguments followed... long story.

Well imnsho, if the Filipino-Americans in the Medical Profession feels they need to be apologized to, then they should continue with their petition. Who knows what sort of narrow minded individual watching the show would believe that you can get fake medical diplomas all the way here half way around the globe, Philippines. Why go all the way here? Don't they have their own 'Recto' in the US? Hahaha... Labo...

Honestly I don't really know how to react on this. On one hand, its really a low, un-asked for comment on the Philippine Medical Profession, there are really good Doctors, Nurses, Caregivers, who tirelessly pass those Medical Exams... and they feel offended. On the other hand, its still is considerably a US series and you know how humor goes there, they make comments to all races - Mexican, Chinese, Afgans, the list goes on and on...(I don't hear the Chinese rallying when Miriam Santiago said that they are the root of corruption-and that was in a senate official hearing).

Just look at the bright side, at least the actor who played the doctor was white, what could that mean? White folks need to fake it?- did I just made a racist humor? Wehwehweh. Lighten up! Its a twisted world~

*****

Oh yeah and speaking of twisted world you know that traffics gone really bad when you hear news like this A LAWYER was arrested yesterday after he shot two people dead following a traffic altercation...

Then even more twisted to learn more details about it... A LAWYER shot dead a vice president of an information technology company and his companion following a traffic altercation in Pasig City yesterday... When news like these are started to be given names...

And you know how small the world is... how small specifically the I.T. world is.. that I find out that a friend of mine actually knows the victims Van's blog - When something tragic happens...

You find out that the victim (shot 7 times) had just celebrated his birthday the day before.. and that the other female victim(shot twice) was just here in Manila for vacation to attend the birthday party... then you wonder, how bad was the traffic, how bad was the argument was, what kind of educated human being would shot people he didn't even know several times, not once, nor twice, but a number of times. This is the person who's face should be spammed all over as a warning not to be like him. Then you pray that the souls of the victim may rest and peace, and that their family and friends who knew them well may find peace as well. And that the educated lawyer guy who obviously couldn't control his temper, ironically supposedly knows the law - that he may get death penalty, or better yet may he have a very long life rotting in our very crowded prison hell, i mean cells for the rest of his life.

My Girl is on HBO!

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 08:05 PM on October 4, 2007.

I watched My Girl the other day in HBO and I remember how much I love this movie (and My Girl 2). I have a lot of issues growing up that i could totally relate to

This is probably my most favorite scene in the movie.

Vada: Why do you think people want to get married?
Thomas J. Sennett: When you get old, you just have to.

Vada: I'm going to marry Mr. Bixler.
Thomas J. Sennett: You can't marry a teacher, it's against the law.
Vada: It is not.
Thomas J. Sennett: Yes it is, 'cause then he'll give you all A's, and it won't be fair.

And I still cried when Thomas J died... huhuhu...

Blogging about me.

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 11:22 AM on October 13, 2007.

You probably have read blogs that are totally dedicated to something... like blog for travels - must see places, food - restos to try, movies, tv shows, celebs.. etc etc... The other day I was reading one blog dedicated to food and I felt a little envious (blog envy syndrome - hehehe)... Nice layout, really well written entries, with enticing pictures, a lot of people commenting something about the topic... why isn't my blog like that Hehehe (ingitera)

Then I thought if I'd be dedicating my blog entries to something what would that be?? Movies I watch? TV shows? Plays? or may be something techie?? But what do I know? Java? Cobol? Smalltalk? Natural? (wahahaha I think I have enough of that at work).

Oh well I tried of thinking one whole concept to talk about in my blog, but I really can't... I love too much of everything and I kinda write just about anything.. or else why would my blog be title as my not so humble opinion anyways...

Now I don't feel the envy after all, my blog is actually dedicated to something, and its me! hahaha! what a narcissist!

***

My papa is running for kagawad in the Barangay elections! Out of the 5 of us at home who are eligible to vote, only my mama, papa and I are registered to vote. Thats 2 votes sayang.

Of course I'll be voting for may papa! Who knows him better than we do! And I know how hard he works especially for the Gawad Kalinga project (I type his project proposals and financial reports) He spends every single penny of the donors money for those houses, he is very transparent when it comes to these things. Mahirap na ma-karma using money that isn't intended for your personal use (hay sana may matamaan ng karma sa gobyerno - hehehe)

Van, left for Slovakia yesterday. Awww, can't believe that my best friend finally flown some far off place with no family or relatives or close friends in tow. All for work. Which makes me realize one thing... ang tanda na namin! hahaha.

Oh yah and speaking of old age, a few weeks back when Van and I was walking along Buendia coming from MOA jeep ride and walking in Burgos St. We were recalling how we use to walk those streets almost everyday of our HS lives fearless like we own the street and now as we walk it... we think about all the dangers of walking it. We don't really know when and how we started to fear what lurks the dark streets of Pasay, but it has always been that way... so what makes then and now different. That as you grow old you tend to fear more of what you can lose ? Is that it?

***

Today is my Lolo's 1st Death Anniversary (Father's side). Couldn't believe that its already one year since he past. I still am just thinking he's in the province. Anyways may his soul rest in peace.

Tomorrow is my other Lolo's Death Anniversary (Mother's side). Never really met him since he died 3 years before I was born. But I've seen him in pictures.

Reminds me that there's so much to thank God about life... That I may also have a family like my Lolos who now remembers and prays from them in this world. (Hmmm I may want to rethink that thought of no family, no children in the next 5 years - where's that goal setting paper I drafted before...hahahaha... well family doesn't necessarily means blood line right?)

***

I'm blabbing a lot in this entry alone. Really am busy at work that I couldn't really make an entry on a normal day...so this comes as a relaxation moment for me already. Well I've been praying for challenging work for quite sometime now, like dancing for rain for the longest drought ever. And when it rains, it really pours... hehehe... like I said in my past entries, I'm happy about it. It makes working so much useful and meaningful (I think I felt a tear run down my right cheek - kidding!) but seriously - I've already over used the same old, same old lines when asked how is work.. now I have a new word in tow, busy, which is a really good thing to say, trust me.

Politicking...What is happening to the world around me?

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 11:49 AM on October 20, 2007.

I really hate politicians in this country... ok maybe not all, just those people whom I have known to be trapos or mysteriously finds a way to manipulate the public for their own political ambitions. And sometimes I can't even believe that there are actually people who believe them. Nuts nuts nuts!

I think it is right to question the government's questionable dealings just like the ZTE deal with the Chinese government. I mean it could have been nice that we could improve our telecommunications lines and internet.. . but for one, we know that the technology they are offering is already being offered and is available here in some of OUR own companies, why invest your money to a foreign company. Kamo, dealing with the government means giving lagay on government officials. And the value of their lagay is like 1CYN=5.8PHP?! mas malaki yung value nung lalagay nila kesa sa local companies. Or maybe Philippine owned companies just refuses to make these under the table dealings anymore! Well they really shouldn't! And now is their time to be heard by Escudero, Lacson, Cayetano etc. etc. who have these political advocacies. And now the government is caught giving out questionable money. Hahaha, funny that its only Panillio who said something at first. Patarakaran na for sure what the money was for, why do you think the other congressmen are not reacting to it anyways??

With that said let me just say that I'm still pro-government. Yes, I do support the oppositions intention of exposing the government's finest corrupts however I don't think that impeaching the president is the absolute way of making this government (or the next or the next there after) straighten out. You know that the opposition is just striking while the iron is hot but I really think its a stupid plan that will leave us in more financial crisis. Given that Arroyo somehow was miraculously ousted, we'll be replacing her with De Castro, and I bet my million if I have one that they will likewise question De Castro's capabilities to run this government. He would be a much easier target. Then whats next? by this time probably they are already building some big shot Trapo politician again, who's rise to fame was paying up people to put him/her at the presidents seat and kissing a lot of asses and repaying them back with money from the governments pocket. Wow! this is politics telenovela style. No matter how it has been repacked, this story was already told several times (i.e. Erap's time) with a few unexpected twist the second time around. But still kulang sa pag-iisip kung what effect it brings the masa. Siguro they are doing this kasi bumabagsak na ang value ng dollar accounts nila against sa peso - well I know I was sad when that was happening when I was being paid in USD... hehehehe...

I love it that we have an economist as a president. Alam mong mukhang pera... hahaha... And I say that as a positive compliment a. I mean if you are investing your money, who would you give it to? An economist? or hmm, kanino ba...a Lawyer? An economist would know the financial market and where to invest your money, gusto niya kumita! Pera yan e! A Lawyer.... hmmm saan niya dadalhin ang pera ko? A! sa client niyang jueteng lord, para umikot ang pera! hahaha! joke joke joke! I'm just saying, think think think! Um, I really think the President thinks of us as Investment, and syempre if you are a product you sell your Product for profit hindi for losses. And a dropping economy is not a sellable product!!! Hindi siya makikinabang at hindi rin tayo makikinabang, we will be losers both ways. Kaya wake up! Impeachment is not a solution. Nuts nuts nuts!

But its really good that leaches in this government and the old baluktut ways are being exposed. Time for a change pero tama na ang people power chuvaness... we've done that several times ano na nangyayari, we never learn. Oks na ako na yung mga under the table dealings are being exposed. That should teach these leaches to know that their actions are being watched. Small positive changes.

*****

Of course the biggest news today is the Glorietta 2 bombing. Naawa ako sa side ng glorietta na yun.. parang ang malas malas... I vividly remember na yun din yung side ng Synergy (parang timezone) na, na-bomb din nung HS ako. Ngayon I read the news, sabi sa 2nd floor daw yung 2nd bomb, which is the childrens apparrel area!!! ano ba! paano kung may mga bata na nandun. I have a visual map of glorietta pa on my head... kung ano yung mga shops na natamaan.. like Papemelrotti who is at the ground floor lang nung escalator that fell... tagal na nun nandun since grade school pa ata ako I think. Twisted people! How can you sleep at night!

And I don't think the government did it to move the news away from the political issues. Its stupid! And I call these people who think it that way as stupid as well... I mean, what gains can you get with dead people, casualties, and closed businesses?! Come on people! Think before you say something! Instead on speculating, use your time to PROVE its actually the government who did this - then when you've proven it, thats the time you call it as a foul on the government - I'll believe you don't worry, I'll retract my stupid comment. One of them is even saying that we are in the road to Martial Law... may god help you. You are only feeding the people with fear and its really not helping at all. Why then would the government want martial law?! I mean when you say something you say why with reason. Hindi yung wala lang just because... its just plain nuts! There could be a million reasons why glorietta was bomb, I could come up with a few on top of my head why - terrorist, test bombs for a bigger bomb, employee dispute over management, etc etc. But come on don't waste media airtime speculating something and give a preposterous reason why, sumasakit lang ulo ko sa panonood sa inyo.

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 04:59 PM on October 20, 2007.

c/o Jamih's DVD collection I got to watch Be with You movie

Huhuhuhu... naiyak ako... really tear-jerker movie... one of my fave I should say. Parang love should be this way, no bounderies.. pero what do I know of love?! hahahaha...

I found out that this is based from a novel by Takuji Ichikawa and has a TV adaptation to it. I think I'll be busy downloading series again. I watched a synopsis from the TV series (click here) and reminds me of 1 Liter of Tears.

And there's a US remake target to be release in 2009. We'll I do hope they make a good version of it.

*****

And speaking of remake, I finally, finally watched The Lake House thanks to HBO. Aww what a really nice story. I love Sandra Bullock and Keanu together. Now I'm itching to watch Il Mare the original korean movie the lake house was based from.

Chances are...

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 02:12 PM on October 21, 2007.

Have you watched Chances Are staring Cybill Shepard and Robert Downey Jr.

Its a bout a guy who on their wedding anniversary, he died, and while in heaven he wanted to get back to his wife, Cybill Shepard, unfortunately it was too late since his body was already cremated... so he rushed to be reincarnated as Robert Downey Jr. forgetting to take a immunization forget-your-past-life shot... In a twist of fate he met his daughter then met Cybill then he remembers his past life... and so the conflict of the story begins.

I wonder if heaven is really that way... I mean souls are recycled and born again (hehehe thats an eco-friendly way of putting it huh?) If it is... do you get to choose which family to be born in? Do you get to choose to be black, or white, or asian, or european? Do you get to choose to be wealth or poor? Do you get to choose to be boy or girl?

If yes, I wonder why I choose this life, rather than choosing maybe someone popular, or someone who doesn't have to work to earn a living, or not a man - which is a good thing I'm not.

Maybe I choose to be born in this family for my mom. So that living with 3 other male won't such be a burden to her.

I don't know, sometimes I find life to be so unfair... but then again whats fair anyways. Maybe its my karma?

One version of karma that your past, present, and future things you do affects your whole reincarnation. Something like you'll be reborn to the lowliest form of living thing when you've done something really bad in you past life.

Anyways, I'll just try to live this life to the best that I can and maybe if God permits it, if reincarnation does truly happens, I could ask God that I'd be a rock star - just for fun... but till then.

Airline promo scams... be aware!

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 05:48 PM on October 27, 2007.

Weekend time for myself again! Yey! got to relax and read on what's published in the board sheets this past week...This article caught my attention.

Warning issued against airline ticket fraud

The gist of the article is that there is a scam going around, where some group of people are posting as travel agents, handing out flyers and selling airline tickets at a discounted rate, you pay them in cash and book your ticket online using a stolen credit cards... tsk tsk tsk...

The article is really informative especially if you do purchase your tickets through a 3rd party vendor. But this is what caught my attention: If the customer is unable to present the credit card at check-in, the airline will prevent the customer from boarding. And I find it unnecessary - or really not an efficient security precaution, in my (not so) humble opinion of course.

What?! What if I don't have that credit card anymore? I've purchased airline tickets 6 months in advance (airline early booking promo!) and during that 6 months I have canceled my credit card - cut the card and threw it away. Or the customer could have lost his/her credit card and got a replacement. Or a friend who has a really could credit line could have purchased tickets but isn't really going on this trip (yes, this is real life scenario people! I really know someone who booked tickets for a friend - credit card points!) Anyway, my point being, I couldn't find any rational why airline could refuse you of boarding if you couldn't produce the credit card you used to purchase the ticket.

Ok.. ok.. I think I miss read the article a bit... maybe took it out of context, but I don't want to delete what I wrote on earlier... I find what I wrote sheer rush of emotions (a little humiliating but still opinionated), and find it as hitting a target but I don't think that its target that I was suppose to hit.

Ok, here's what I understand now, so if and when the customer (who by the way is the victim in the scenario) was asked by the airline company to produce the questionable card that bought the ticket, he/she will be refused to board the plane. Did I understand it right this time? Well I hope so...So I guess I won't be complaining to an airline anytime soon...People be smart buyers, because you really can't believe what these crooks could come out with next.

Why?

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 04:15 PM on October 28, 2007.

I often find myself asking God, why? Why am I stuck here, now, with this family, with this life. I know I am better off than a lot of people out there in the world, but cant we all just be like those people who totally enjoy who they are and what they are in life? Did I just miss the line in heaven that says fortunate babies born this line please??

Maybe I was hoping for a really big mission in life... Um like saving the world, saving mother earth, saving animals, saving less fortunate children who have nothing to eat, making homes for the homeless... but you know, I just realize that its not what I'm here for, I'm just saving my family, or maybe just saving myself. I am no super hero. Really a constant struggle, why do I have to concern myself with these problems when I could be off somewhere for myself. Why God why?

Last week we had a very nice gospel in church, about the power of prayer, and the priest said often times we pray for Me, Myself, and I... always about us and never about others. Though I totally agree with him, I ask myself, who then will pray for my family, for my sake if not me, myself, and I? I know, I know, the whole gospel was simply saying that we should also learn to pray for others and not just about ourselves... but is my prayers anything less than if prayers where said for me by somebody else? Aren't my prayers good enough to be heard?

Hay Just having a really bad day. My mom calls it oppressions, I call it just lack of concern for others. I just really hate the lack of everything, lack of patience, lack of concern, lack of common sense, lack of understanding, lack of everything! Always about what they want and never losing on anything. Its always about an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth, never just about giving in more. And though I really want to say, I have enough already, I really want to pack up my things and say that I don't really need this in my life, I could really live my life on my own, I just really can't because this is family, and somehow God choose me to be here, now, and in this life, this is my family, I could have worse, I could have better, I don't think I have the strength in me anymore to change what they are, who they are...just trying to live this life, just have to take it all in, hopefully before God takes me he's good enough to make me eternally happy that I did something good with my life.

Oh and yah, just thought of sharing my problems so that in case you find me in the mental hospital, you'll know what made me snap, I have one or two distant relatives who have been confined in the looney bin, so could it could happen - whehehehe, this is me trying to be funny, trying to get the negativity out. Oh Lord we just all have times like these.

Digby-fied

Posted by jeng_is_cute at 10:36 PM on October 30, 2007.

I was looking for KC's version of Umbrella.. happen to find this link below...

Get this widget | Track details | eSnips Social DNA

Unfortunately this happens not to be KC (ata ha, unless she did record a studio track - KC did sing a very similar but a little slower version in her Paris to Pinas Biography show, maganda nga e... kaya I was looking for her version online) This is Marie Digby who's rise to fame was her acoustic versions of pop songs she uploaded on Youtube (though she did have a signed recording contract even before she became famous in Youtube). KC actually does sound like her... I thought it was KC too!

I love it! Now I'm Digby-fied! She has other songs in her myspace.

Doesn't she look like KC? Kaya lang KC is more morena looking and has a stronger face, grabs attention talaga, parang its the first face you see in a crowd of people - I know it grabed mine when we watched Avenue Q hehehe, ganda!
